Check in & Gear up
Meet at Parker’s Motel game room down the stairs to the left of the office building to check in, get fitted for ice climbing boots, crampons, helmets, and receive ice axes before heading over to the Flume parking lot.
We are so excited to provide the next step for those who have some ice climbing experience and are interested in learning more from two amazing, local guides. It is such an amazing opportunity to learn from both of these instructors and it is a pleasure to make their experience accessible to our community. The Flume Gorge is beautiful in the winter, but it can be a challenge to navigate alone so we have set key locations and times to get everyone geared up and to pitch safely and efficiently. Use the information below to get an idea of what to expect and what we’re doing to maximize everyone’s experience.
While we have worked with our sponsors to provide everyone with ice climbing boots, crampons, ice axes, and a harness if you don’t have your own, you’ll need to be prepared for the cold weather conditions. We recommend bringing at least the following:
Keep your legs and core warm and dry with a waterproof outer layer
A synthetic, moisture wicking layer against your skin along with multiple intermediate layers will allow you to manage your body heat and moisture levels while performing physical activity like hiking and climbing in cold environments
Consider finger dexterity while protecting your extremities and keeping them warm
Cover your face and keep it warm
Protect your snow pants from your crampon spikes
Stay hydrated and fueled
Ice Fest has sold out every year with prime, weekend spots filling up before the end of the year so don’t wait and register today
