Rock Spot Climbing locations to use a combination of tape and hold color to mark routes
Lincoln, RI, September 4, 2014– Big changes based directly on customer feedback.
You’ve likely noticed by now that we’ve been experimenting with going tapeless the last few months. Setting by hold color versus using tape keeps the walls visually uncluttered, but also saves thousands of feet of tape from the landfill each year.
During the past few months, we received lots of feedback at the desk, via email, social media, and the comment boxes at each gym. Some of the feedback was good, some bad, and some was simply creative. We listened to all of your input, and have worked out a tape plan which addresses the main concerns of our members.
In the coming months you will notice the following changes:
- Lincoln will continue to use tape on all routes, both top rope and boulder.
- Peace Dale and Boston-Dedham will use tape only on the boulder, top rope and lead walls will be set by hold color only.
- The current Boston-Dedham set will remain up until our ABS competition on 11/8/14, but we will be setting some additional taped problems mid-way through the set.
- We have replaced the top out rails over the cave in Boston-Dedham with jugs to better serve our climbers.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our members for the honest feedback, support and loyalty. It means a lot that you take time out of your busy lives to share with us, and we want you to know that we value your opinion. At Rock Spot Climbing, we are always seeking ways to improve and provide the best indoor climbing for all ages, and all abilities!

Whats wrong with this picture…?
“Ermahgerd! There’s no tape!” (said one climber)…“Awesome!” (said another)…“Looks a lot cleaner. Probably makes it easier to follow the path you’re on.” (said the UPS delivery man as he dropped off some sweet climbing gear for the Pro-Shop in Peace Dale)
That’s right everybody! No more tape for marking the Boulder Problems at our Peace Dale, RI gym. We will slowly be transitioning away from using tape for the Top-Rope / Lead climbs as well…and we will be getting rid of the tape at our other gyms…with some gyms transitioning faster than others (hint…Boston!)
In the meantime, come check out all 81 of the super-fantastic-new Boulder Problems at our Peace Dale, RI Gym! Here’s a list of all the new stuff…
