Not your first time ice climbing?
We are so excited to provide the next step for those who have some ice climbing experience and are interested in learning more. Check out our full day sessions with taller walls with more difficult climbs available.
DIRECTIONS
The Flume Gorge is beautiful in the winter, but it can be a challenge to navigate alone so we have set key locations and times to get everyone geared up and to pitch safely and efficiently. Use the information below to get an idea of what to expect and what we’re doing to maximize everyone’s experience.
DRESS FOR SUCCESS
While we have worked with our sponsors to provide everyone with ice climbing boots, crampons, ice axes, and a harness if you don’t have your own, you’ll need to be prepared for the cold weather conditions. We recommend bringing at least the following:
Snow pants and jacket
Keep your legs and core warm and dry with a waterproof outer layer
Internal layers
A synthetic, moisture wicking layer against your skin along with multiple intermediate layers will allow you to manage your body heat and moisture levels while performing physical activity like hiking and climbing in cold environments
Gloves, warm socks, hand and foot warmers
Consider finger dexterity while protecting your extremities and keeping them warm
Balaclava
Cover your face and keep it warm
Ice Climbing Gaiters
Protect your snow pants from your crampon spikes
Water and food
Stay hydrated and fueled
